Former Disney Channel Star Alyson Stoner Alleges Firing After Coming Out as Queer

Created: JANUARY 25, 2025

Alyson Stoner, known for roles on Disney Channel, has recently stated that the network terminated their contract after they publicly identified as queer in 2018. Stoner, who now uses they/them pronouns, shared this experience on the "I’m Literally Screaming With Spencewuah" podcast, alleging that Disney Channel's decision was discriminatory.

The 29-year-old actor, whose credits include "The Suite Life of Zack & Cody," "That’s So Raven," "Phineas and Ferb," and the "Camp Rock" movies, did not specify the project they were involved with at the time of the alleged firing. However, Stoner claimed the network expressed concerns about their sexual orientation posing a risk to children. According to Stoner, the dismissal followed the publication of a personal essay in Teen Vogue where they discussed their attraction to individuals of all genders.

In the essay, Stoner described being captivated by "the soul" and loving people of "every gender identity and expression." They recounted the anxiety surrounding the essay's release, acknowledging potential career repercussions. Stoner also mentioned a conversation with their manager, Kevin Jonas Sr., who had cautioned them about the risks involved. Despite these warnings, Stoner felt compelled to share their truth, partly out of fairness to their then-girlfriend. While acknowledging the "hate comments and death threats" received, Stoner ultimately viewed coming out as both "intimidating and liberating." Fox News Digital has reached out to Disney for comment but has not yet received a response.
