A British tourist tragically lost his life while on vacation in Jamaica after attempting a 21-cocktail challenge at a local bar. Timothy Southern, 53, from Staffordshire, England, was vacationing with his family in Saint Ann, Jamaica, in May 2022 when the incident occurred.
According to reports, Southern encountered two Canadian women at a bar who were participating in a 21-drink challenge to celebrate a birthday. Having already consumed brandy and beer, Southern joined the women and reportedly consumed 12 cocktails before returning to his room at the Royal Decameron Club Caribbean, where he later died.

Southern's family has raised serious concerns about the medical care he received. A family member recounted finding Southern choking and unresponsive. They placed him in the recovery position and called for an ambulance, but claim there were delays in medical assistance and expressed dissatisfaction with the CPR administered by the nurse who eventually arrived.

A pathologist in Kingston, Jamaica, determined the cause of death to be “acute gastroenteritis due to alcohol consumption.” However, the toxicology report is expected to take up to three years to reach the UK, further prolonging the family's search for answers.

This tragic incident underscores the potential dangers of excessive alcohol consumption and raises questions about the availability and quality of medical care in resort areas. The family's criticism of the medical response highlights the need for prompt and effective emergency services, particularly in tourist destinations.
