South Dakota Governor Noem's Chief of Staff Departs, Fifth to Leave During Her Tenure

Created: JANUARY 17, 2025

Governor Kristi Noem of South Dakota is seeing another shift in her leadership team as her chief of staff, Mark Miller, announces his resignation. This marks the fifth chief of staff to depart during Governor Noem's time in office. Spokesperson Ian Fury confirmed Miller's upcoming departure but refrained from commenting on the specific date or potential successors.

Reports indicate that Miller is relocating back to Florida to take up a position with a non-profit organization. Fury expressed gratitude for Miller's service to the state and attributed the move to advantageous family circumstances. Kristi Noem at CPAC

Miller's journey with the Noem administration began in 2020 as general counsel. He stepped into the role of interim chief of staff in 2021 and was formally appointed to the position in March 2022. During his time in South Dakota, Miller played a key role as Governor Noem's advisor on abortion-related matters and also chaired the Department of Education’s Social Studies Standards Commission.
