Former Minnesota Vikings punter Chris Kluwe has publicly expressed his support for the Senate Democrats' decision to block the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act. This bill aimed to prevent biological males from competing in women's sports.
Kluwe, who recently gained attention after an incident at a California city council meeting, shared his views on the social media platform BlueSky. He stated his approval of the Democrats' unified stance against the bill, emphasizing the importance of such unity on all issues. He went on to suggest the nation faces a critical juncture, calling for collective action to address this existential crisis.
The Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act, introduced by Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.), sought to define gender based solely on biological sex at birth for Title IX purposes. This would effectively exclude transgender athletes from competing in women's sports. The bill failed to overcome a filibuster, with no Democratic senators voting in its favor.
This proposed legislation would have also solidified a recent executive order from former President Donald Trump aimed at restricting transgender athletes' participation by withholding federal funding from states that allow it.
