Despite the heated exchange between President Trump and Ukrainian President Zelenskyy in the Oval Office on February 28, 2025, House Republicans maintain their support for a proposed minerals agreement between the two nations.
Several GOP representatives expressed their hope that the deal, which would grant the U.S. access to Ukraine's crucial mineral resources in return for financial aid and investment, would proceed. They believe this agreement would be mutually beneficial, strengthening the U.S.-Ukraine alliance and deterring potential threats.

The meeting between Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and Zelenskyy was abruptly cut short due to a public disagreement over the ongoing Ukraine-Russia conflict. The proposed minerals deal was left unsigned, and Zelenskyy was asked to leave prematurely.

While some Republicans criticized Zelenskyy's conduct during the meeting, they emphasized the importance of keeping the deal on the table. House Majority Whip Tom Emmer expressed optimism following Zelenskyy's subsequent statement indicating Ukraine's willingness to negotiate.

Other representatives, including Chip Roy, Burgess Owens, Ralph Norman, Darrell Issa, and Andy Harris, echoed the sentiment that the deal would be advantageous for both countries and should remain under consideration.

In a recent development, Zelenskyy acknowledged that the meeting did not go as planned but affirmed Ukraine's readiness to return to negotiations and work towards a lasting peace.
