Johntay Cook II Questions Potential Multi-Million Dollar NIL Deal for Quinn Ewers to Leave Texas

Created: JANUARY 26, 2025

Reports have surfaced suggesting Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers has received a substantial Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) offer, estimated at $6 million, to entice him to transfer from the University of Texas. However, former Longhorn wide receiver, Johntay Cook II, has publicly expressed skepticism about the wisdom of such a move.

Cook, who shared the field with Ewers for two seasons before transferring to the University of Washington, responded to the report on X (formerly Twitter), stating that such an investment would be a waste of money. His X account has since been privatized. During his time at Texas, Cook recorded 16 receptions for 273 yards and two touchdowns in 20 games.

The speculation surrounding Ewers' future comes after a season that fell short of expectations, impacting his projected NFL draft stock. Despite this, he opted to return to Texas for the 2024 season. The Longhorns currently hold the fifth seed in the College Football Playoff and are slated to face Arizona State in the quarterfinals.

While Ewers' situation has drawn considerable attention, rumors have also circulated about fellow Texas quarterback, Arch Manning. However, Manning recently dismissed these rumors, affirming his commitment to the Longhorns. Other programs, such as Notre Dame, have been mentioned as potential landing spots for Ewers, but Notre Dame's head coach has indicated the team does not intend to pursue a quarterback through the transfer portal.

Ewers initially committed to Texas in 2020 but later decommitted to join Ohio State. He saw limited action with the Buckeyes in 2021 before transferring back to Texas for the 2022 season.
