Created: JANUARY 25, 2025

Lara Trump has announced her resignation as co-chair of the Republican National Committee (RNC), sharing the news on X. She explained her departure by stating the RNC achieved the three key objectives she had set out to accomplish during her tenure.

Trump joined the RNC leadership in March 2024. Her departure comes amid speculation about her future political aspirations, particularly given her father-in-law, Donald Trump's, return to the White House.

"With this significant victory, I feel my role is complete," she remarked. "I've achieved what I set out to do."

During her time as co-chair, Trump played a crucial role in the Republicans regaining control of the Senate and holding onto a slim majority in the House. Her potential appointment as a replacement for Florida Senator Marco Rubio has been a topic of discussion, especially with rumors of Rubio being considered for Secretary of State in the new Trump administration.

In a recent interview with Fox News' Sean Hannity, Trump expressed her interest in serving the people of Florida and confirmed she would seriously consider filling the Senate seat if offered.

Notable figures, including Maye Musk, mother of Elon Musk, have voiced their support for Trump's potential Senate bid. Musk herself expressed her admiration for Trump on social media. Senator Lindsey Graham also endorsed Trump, stating Republicans "couldn't do better."

The final decision regarding Rubio's replacement rests with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who is also rumored to be considering a replacement for Pete Hegseth. Michael Whatley will continue to serve as RNC chairman.
