Music icon Paul Simon, 83, is set to return to the stage in 2025 with his "A Quiet Celebration Tour." This comes after a near decade-long break from touring and follows Simon's public acknowledgment of significant hearing loss in his left ear. The tour will focus on intimate venues chosen specifically for their superior acoustics to accommodate Simon's hearing challenges.
Simon, known for hits like "The Sound of Silence," revealed his hearing impairment in 2023, expressing initial frustration and hoping for recovery. Despite the ongoing challenge, he's found new inspiration to perform, reworking material from his latest album, "Seven Psalms," and reimagining classic fan favorites for this unique tour.
He emphasizes the audience's role in completing the musical experience and aims to enhance this connection in the intimate setting of these carefully chosen venues. The tour begins in New Orleans on April 4, 2025, with dates across North America, including Canada, concluding in Seattle in August.
This return marks a shift from Simon's 2018 retirement announcement, where he cited the strain of touring on family life. His latest album, "Seven Psalms," features a duet with his wife of over 30 years, Edie Brickell. The couple has three children. Simon was also briefly married to the late Carrie Fisher.
