Lawsuit Against Arizona Governor Dismissed
Created: JANUARY 22, 2025
In a recent legal development, a lawsuit challenging Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs' decision to halt an execution has been dismissed at the mutual request of both parties involved. The suit was filed by Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell and family members of Ted Price, arguing that Hobbs had overstepped her authority by refusing to carry out the execution of Aaron Gunches, who was convicted of Price's murder in 2002. Governor Hobbs had imposed a moratorium on executions to review the state's death penalty protocols following past execution mishaps and difficulties obtaining lethal injection drugs.
