Manhattan Bus Collision Leaves Dozens Injured

A collision between a New York City public bus and a double-decker tour bus resulted in numerous injuries Thursday evening in Manhattan. The incident occurred around 7:15 p.m. near the intersection of 23rd Street and 1st Avenue.

Emergency medical services transported 27 individuals to local hospitals, while approximately 50 people were assessed at the scene. The New York Police Department confirmed that all injuries were non-life-threatening, with Deputy Chief Paul Hopper of EMS Division 1 describing them as primarily cuts, bruises, scrapes, along with some head and neck injuries.

FDNY Deputy Chief Kevin Murphy highlighted the challenges posed by a collision involving two buses, noting the significant number of patients requiring medical attention. First responders utilized ladders and ropes to assist injured passengers from the upper deck of the tour bus due to the extent of damage. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
