A 28-year-old Michigan resident, Jeremy Rodgers, has been apprehended in Orlando, Florida, for his alleged involvement in the January 6, 2021, U.S. Capitol breach. Rodgers faces multiple felony and misdemeanor charges, most notably assaulting a federal officer using a dangerous weapon. He appeared before a Florida court and will be prosecuted in the District of Columbia.
Rodgers is accused of participating in the protests against the 2020 presidential election results. Authorities allege that he, along with others, stormed the Capitol building in an attempt to disrupt the certification of Joe Biden's victory. The ensuing violence resulted in five fatalities.
Court documents reveal that surveillance footage purportedly shows Rodgers wielding a flagpole with a blue flag attached. He allegedly struck a U.S. Capitol Police officer's helmet three times with the pole and made two additional swings at officers. Prosecutors claim he also used the flagpole to obstruct officers from securing the building's entrance, enabling others to breach the Capitol. Once inside, he allegedly removed railings to further facilitate the crowd's entry.

Investigators state that Rodgers joined a group that forced their way past a police line outside the House Chamber. Following another altercation with law enforcement, he reportedly paraded through the Rotunda, displaying his flag, before eventually exiting the building.
Rodgers' arrest is part of a nationwide crackdown on individuals involved in the Capitol riot. Over 1,000 arrests have been made across nearly all 50 states, with over 350 individuals facing charges related to assaulting or obstructing law enforcement officers. At present, Rodgers has no legal representation listed in court records.
