Tragedy struck the New Mexico State University community with the sudden passing of women's soccer player Thalia Chaverria. The 20-year-old junior from Bakersfield, California, was found unresponsive at her residence on Monday morning and pronounced deceased at the scene.

Chaverria was a key member of the Aggies soccer team, contributing significantly to their first-ever conference title win. As a defender, she started in 20 games during her sophomore season, ranking fourth in total minutes played and providing two assists.

NMSU Athletics Director Mario Moccia expressed profound sadness at the loss, describing Chaverria as a vibrant individual with a promising future. Head coach Rob Baarts echoed these sentiments, calling her an inspiration and a rock to the team, assuring her memory would live on.

While the Las Cruces Police Department is investigating, they have stated there is no suspicion of foul play. The university community is mourning the loss of this talented young athlete.
