NYC Police Officer Faces 119 Child Pornography Charges

A New York City police officer has been indicted on 119 counts of possessing child pornography, according to a recent announcement by Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney. Steven Marksberry, 50, of Lake Grove, is accused of capturing screenshots and storing illicit material on his cellphone.

The Suffolk County Police Department launched an investigation after receiving a tip from the Internet Crimes Against Children task force, which alerted them to Marksberry allegedly uploading explicit images to his iCloud account.

A search warrant executed on Marksberry's iCloud account and cellphone reportedly uncovered numerous images depicting the sexual abuse of young girls aged between 4 and 12.

Marksberry was arraigned before Supreme Court Justice Richard Ambro on a 119-count indictment. The charges include 50 counts of promoting a sexual performance by a child and 69 counts of possessing a sexual performance by a child. Each charge is a felony.

Justice Ambro set bail at $100,000 cash, $250,000 bond, or $2.5 million partially secured bond. Marksberry is due back in court on August 7th. He faces a maximum sentence of 20 years if convicted.

District Attorney Tierney emphasized the seriousness of the allegations, particularly given Marksberry's position as a police officer. He stated that the safety of children remains a top priority for his office. The investigation is ongoing.
