A string of armed robberies across Ohio culminated in a dramatic police chase and shootout, leaving one suspect dead and a police officer critically injured. Two additional suspects initially escaped on foot but were apprehended later.
The chaotic events began Thursday afternoon when a man, brandishing a firearm, carjacked an SUV from an employee at a Whitehall Porsche dealership. This suspect, along with two accomplices, then proceeded to rob a bank in Columbus. Police quickly confronted the suspects, triggering a high-speed pursuit on Interstate 70.
During the chase, the suspects opened fire on pursuing officers, who returned fire. One suspect was fatally wounded at the scene. An officer was also shot and was rushed to a hospital by his partner. Following surgery, the officer, whose name has not been released and has less than five years on the force, is now in stable condition.

The two remaining suspects fled the shootout scene on foot but were located and arrested early Friday morning at a North Linden residence. Authorities haven't released their names or commented on whether they sustained any injuries during the pursuit or exchange of gunfire.
The Ohio Bureau of Investigation, which is responsible for investigating all officer-involved shootings in Columbus resulting in injury or death, is leading the investigation. The incident and subsequent investigation caused significant traffic disruptions, with several major roadways in the Columbus area closed for hours.
