After a long absence from the Chicago Cubs organization, Sammy Sosa is being welcomed back following an apology for past mistakes. Sosa, who last played for the Cubs in 2007, had been estranged from the team due to speculation surrounding performance-enhancing drug use during his career.

In a recent statement coinciding with the announcement of a fan festival, Sosa admitted to making errors in judgment, although maintaining he never broke any laws. He expressed his dedication to the Cubs and their fans, emphasizing his desire to win and bring joy to the bleachers. He acknowledged the cloud over players from his era and their achievements, attributing some of his actions to attempts to recover from injuries over a long season.
Sosa's statement paved the way for an invitation to the 2025 Cubs Convention, extended by owner Tom Ricketts. Ricketts acknowledged Sosa's passion for the game and the team, expressing a desire to move forward together. He recognized Sosa's enduring popularity among Cubs fans.

Sosa's remarkable feat of hitting 60 or more home runs in three different seasons remains unique in MLB history. His career total of 609 home runs places him ninth on the all-time list. However, the ongoing PED speculation has hindered his Hall of Fame chances. Earlier this year, Sosa abruptly left a media session when questioned about PED use during a Chicago memorabilia event, his first appearance in the city since retiring.

Sosa's 1998 home run chase with Mark McGwire captivated the baseball world as they both surpassed Roger Maris' single-season record. McGwire finished with 70 home runs, while Sosa hit 66. Despite previous denials under oath, the PED cloud continues to linger over Sosa's legacy.
