Former Congressman Sean Duffy, a father of nine and one-time Fox News contributor, awaits a Senate confirmation vote to become the next Secretary of Transportation under the Trump administration. President Trump has praised Duffy as a respected and popular public figure.
Earlier this month, Duffy appeared before the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee, successfully navigating the confirmation hearing and earning unanimous bipartisan support to advance to a full Senate vote. A cloture vote held Monday evening cleared the way for the final confirmation vote, scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.

If confirmed, Duffy will succeed Pete Buttigieg, who served in the role under the Biden administration. Buttigieg's tenure was marked by criticism from both sides of the aisle concerning his handling of various transportation challenges, including the response to the 2023 Ohio train derailment and ongoing issues with airline delays.
As the new administration takes office, lawmakers are expressing their priorities for the incoming transportation secretary. Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) has advocated for the abolishment of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).

During Duffy's confirmation process, Senators Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) and Ted Budd (R-NC) emphasized the need for continued support for victims of Hurricane Helene, particularly addressing the highway collapse into the Pigeon River in North Carolina.
This confirmation vote follows a series of confirmations for President Trump's cabinet nominees, including a recent Saturday vote confirming Kristi Noem as Secretary of Homeland Security.
