Students Impersonate ICE Agents at Temple University, Prompting Investigation and Suspensions

Created: JANUARY 27, 2025

Two Temple University students and a former student face interim suspension and criminal charges after allegedly impersonating U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents at an on-campus business. The incident, which took place at Insomnia Cookies on Cecil B. Moore Avenue, involved the individuals wearing shirts with "ICE" and "POLICE" and one recording the encounter. They also attempted to gain entry to a residence hall but were denied access. Campus police swiftly investigated and apprehended one student, 22-year-old Aidan Steigelmann, who was charged with impersonating a public servant. Temple University's Department of Public Safety has confirmed the identities of all three individuals involved and emphasized that such behavior will not be tolerated. Neither Temple police nor the Philadelphia Police Department received any reports of actual ICE agents being on campus.
