Senator Marsha Blackburn and fellow Tennessee Republicans in Congress have sent a letter to DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas demanding answers regarding the case of Camilo Hurtado Campos, an illegal immigrant accused of raping young boys in Franklin, Tennessee. The lawmakers criticize the Biden administration's border policies, arguing they contributed to Campos' alleged crimes. They point to the over 1.5 million "gotaways" entering the country undetected, highlighting the potential danger posed by individuals evading border patrol. Campos, a former soccer coach, allegedly recorded himself assaulting unconscious boys. His phone, containing the incriminating evidence, was discovered at a local pizza restaurant. Police have identified three victims from the footage, and five more have since come forward. The Tennessee delegation's letter emphasizes that Campos' alleged crimes were preventable, asserting he should not have been in the country. They cite his prior offenses, including public intoxication and multiple instances of driving without a license. The letter demands a response from Secretary Mayorkas by July 24, requesting information on whether DHS was aware of Campos' illegal status and what actions were taken. The lawmakers argue that lax border enforcement has made every state and town vulnerable. The letter concludes by highlighting the tragic consequences of the administration's policies.
