Threats Target Lawmakers and Trump Nominees Amidst Political Tensions

Created: JANUARY 25, 2025

Political tensions are escalating as threats target both Democratic lawmakers and incoming Trump administration nominees. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries confirmed several threats against members of his caucus, including potential pipe bombs and swatting incidents. The threats, signed "MAGA," prompted Jeffries to call for the prosecution of those responsible and increased protection for members of Congress and their families. President Biden affirmed the administration's collaboration with the FBI to address these threats.

Rep. Seth Magaziner (D-RI) also reported a threat against his home, while Sen. Christopher Murphy (D-CT) and five other Connecticut Democrats faced similar threats, seemingly part of a coordinated effort. Rep. James Himes emphasized the need for peace and civility during the holiday season in light of these events.

Several Trump nominees also reported threats, including Rep. Elise Stefanik, former Reps. Matt Gaetz and Lee Zeldin, and former Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer. Additional threats were directed at nominees such as Howard Lutnick, Brooke Rollins, and Pete Hegseth. The FBI is actively investigating these incidents and urges the public to report any suspicious activity.
