Trump's address follows an executive order he signed restricting "chemical and surgical" sex change procedures for minors. The order, titled "Protecting Children from Chemical and Surgical Mutilation," aims to prevent what the administration considers irreversible medical interventions on children.

While the order has faced resistance in some areas, other hospitals have begun to comply. The University of Virginia Health Hospital, for instance, announced it would cease providing transgender treatments to new young patients. Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin praised the decision.
