A decade after leaving the Army, a former soldier faces charges for allegedly stealing a military Humvee and crashing it into an office building at Fort Stewart in southeast Georgia. The incident occurred on Monday when the armored vehicle smashed through the glass entrance of the Army post's headquarters, home to the offices of Fort Stewart's commanding general and other high-ranking officials. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
39-year-old Treamon Dominic Lacy is charged in federal court with the theft and destruction of government property. Fort Stewart officials confirmed Lacy's service history, stating he served as a wheeled-vehicle mechanic from 2002 to 2013, including two deployments to Iraq.
According to court documents filed by Army Criminal Investigation Division agent Jordan Poe, security footage captured Lacy exiting the Humvee immediately after the impact. He was reportedly apprehended by an individual at the scene until military police arrived.

The Humvee was allegedly taken from a motor pool at Fort Stewart, as stated in the agent's court filing. As of Tuesday, Lacy remained in custody in Liberty County without bond. Court and jail records did not indicate legal representation for him.
Neither Army investigators nor Fort Stewart officials have disclosed a motive for the incident. Fort Stewart, situated southwest of Savannah, is the largest Army installation east of the Mississippi River and houses the 3rd Infantry Division.
