In a dramatic turn of events, a Tulsa driver intervened in a police pursuit last Thursday, tackling a fleeing suspect. The incident unfolded when Tulsa police officers stopped a man and woman downtown for questioning. The man, initially claiming to be named "David," was asked to sit on the curb. Instead, he bolted, running across several lanes of traffic.
Bodycam footage released Friday shows two officers pursuing the suspect, later identified as Miguel Fernandez. As the chase continued, a driver heading south on Denver Avenue stopped his truck, jumped out, and tackled Fernandez onto the sidewalk. Despite Fernandez's attempts to break free, the citizen held him down until officers arrived.
Fernandez's surprised reaction, captured on video, included a question directed at the man who tackled him: "Why you do me like that, homie?" followed by expletives. An officer swiftly arrested Fernandez as the citizen returned to his vehicle. The officer then requested the other officer to obtain the citizen's name.
Fernandez now faces charges of resisting arrest and possession of drug paraphernalia, along with outstanding felony warrants for burglary, conspiracy, larceny, and illegal firearm possession. The Tulsa Police Department expressed gratitude for the citizen's assistance on Facebook, acknowledging the "110% support" while reminding the public to prioritize their safety.
