Boxing icon Tyson Fury declared his retirement from the sport on Monday, following consecutive defeats to Oleksandr Usyk. The 36-year-old shared the news via a video posted on his Instagram account.

In the video, Fury stated, "I'd like to announce my retirement from boxing. It's been a fantastic journey, I've cherished every moment, and I'm signing off with this: Dick Turpin wore a mask. God bless everyone, see you on the flip side." The reference to 18th-century highwayman Dick Turpin remains enigmatic.

Fury's recent losses to Usyk, both in Saudi Arabia—a split decision in May and a unanimous decision in December—marked the end of his reign as a heavyweight champion. Oleksandr Usyk punches Tyson Fury

His final victory came against Francis Ngannou via split decision. A potential clash between Fury and fellow British boxing star Anthony Joshua, a much-anticipated matchup for fans, now appears unlikely. Fury's career concludes with a record of 34 wins, 2 losses, and 1 draw, including 24 knockouts. His only defeats were against Usyk, with a draw against Deontay Wilder in 2018. This isn't Fury's first retirement announcement. He previously declared his departure from boxing in August 2022, only to return to the ring two months later. Boxing promoter Frank Warren, who has worked with Fury, expressed his support for the boxer's decision, stating, "If that's what he wants to do, that’s great. He’s achieved everything he could. Arguably the best British heavyweight of his generation, a two-time world champion, with two hard-fought battles against Usyk. He’s financially secure, intelligent, and has a wonderful family."
