Over the weekend, drones were observed near the Air Force base, leading to a four-hour closure of its airspace on Saturday. Wright-Patterson AFB serves as a critical hub for logistics, research, and development for the U.S. Air Force.

Base officials confirmed their awareness of the drone presence and stated that the incidents did not affect base personnel, facilities, or assets. They emphasized their commitment to safeguarding the base and are collaborating with local authorities to ensure ongoing security. The Air Force base also highlighted that they maintain the right to protect their installations, though specific security measures remain undisclosed.

Pentagon Press Secretary Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder clarified that these Ohio drone sightings are not believed to be connected to other recent drone activity across the country, including incidents near Langley Air Force Base last year. This clarification comes as officials address concerns about the nature and origin of these various drone sightings.

The Ohio incidents coincided with a weekend conference call involving representatives from several federal agencies, including the FBI, FAA, NSC, DHS, and DOD, to discuss the unusual drone activity, particularly in the Northeast. While officials sought to minimize alarm, they remained guarded about the drones' origins, which are still under investigation. An FBI official on the call suggested a potential "overreaction" to the situation, while acknowledging the ongoing efforts to determine the source of the drone activity.
