On Sunday, the White House grounds were briefly evacuated following the discovery of an unidentified item by the U.S. Secret Service. A spokesperson for the agency confirmed the incident, stating that Uniform Division Officers found the item and initiated the evacuation as a precautionary measure. The D.C. Fire Department's Hazmat team was called to the scene to assess the situation.

D.C. Fire and EMS also responded to the scene near 18th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue. The Secret Service temporarily closed surrounding roads. While the agency has not released any further information about the nature of the item, they later confirmed that all road closures have been lifted.
