President Biden's recent video message for Pride Month, declaring LGBTQ+ youth are "all our kids," has ignited a firestorm of reactions from lawmakers on both sides of the aisle. The video, shared on the White House's social media channels, featured Biden emphasizing the importance of inclusivity and support for LGBTQ+ individuals, especially children.
Republican lawmakers expressed concerns about the message, with some criticizing it as excessive government involvement in cultural issues. Rep. Doug Lamborn (R-Colo.) suggested the White House was venturing too far into the culture wars, while Rep. Ron Estes (R-Kansas) characterized the statement as setting a "bad precedent" for parental rights. Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-Texas) expressed his focus on legislation to restrict federal funding for gender-affirming care, referring to it as a critical issue.

Democratic lawmakers, on the other hand, voiced their support for the President's message. Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.), mother of a transgender child and co-chair of the Transgender Equality Task Force, affirmed her agreement with Biden's sentiment. Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) echoed this view, emphasizing the collective responsibility for the well-being of all children. Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) acknowledged the shared concern for children across party lines, but expressed reservations about medical interventions for minors undergoing gender transition. She advocated for allowing individuals to make such decisions as adults. Rep. Byron Donalds (R-Fla.) urged keeping politics out of children's lives, emphasizing the need to let them grow and learn without political pressures.
