Alabama High School Football Coach Arrested on Multiple Charges Involving Inappropriate Relationship with Student

A former high school football coach in Alabama has been apprehended in Florida and faces serious charges related to an alleged inappropriate relationship with a student. Robert Carter, who previously coached at Clarke County High School, was taken into custody in Niceville, Florida, following a traffic stop, after reportedly leaving Alabama amidst an ongoing investigation.

Carter, 55, is facing 11 counts, including four counts of a school employee engaging in sexual acts with a student, four counts of distributing or soliciting obscene material from a student, and three counts of soliciting sexual acts with a student. He is currently detained in Okaloosa County jail with a bond set at $122,000.

Prior to his arrest, Carter had been placed on administrative leave by the Clarke County School System. Superintendent Ashlie Flowers emphasized the school system's commitment to upholding professionalism and integrity among its staff and taking all reports of misconduct seriously. She stressed the importance of student safety and well-being and expressed appreciation for the collaborative efforts of the administrative team, the school resource officer, and local law enforcement in addressing the situation.

Carter's coaching tenure at Clarke County High School began in 2023, where he achieved a 15-10 record over two seasons. His prior coaching experience includes a stint at Beauregard High School, where he led the team to a state championship in 2016. He also coached at Sylacauga High School in 2021 and 2022.
