A devastating fire ripped through a Connecticut home on Thanksgiving Day, likely ignited by a turkey fryer in the garage. The Weston Volunteer Fire Department battled the blaze for 16 hours before finally extinguishing it, leaving the house uninhabitable.
Firefighters faced challenging conditions, including rapid fire spread, structural collapse, and even a car driving over their hose, interrupting water flow for several minutes. Despite an aggressive initial attack, the fire quickly overwhelmed the garage and spread to the main residence. Thankfully, all occupants, estimated at around 25 people, escaped without injury.
The house, a nearly $3 million, 10,000 square-foot structure, is now considered a total loss. The fire began around 3:40 p.m., turning the Thanksgiving celebration into a nightmare. While the turkey fryer is suspected as the cause, the official cause remains under investigation.
Multiple fire departments, including Westport, Wilton, Redding, West Redding, Georgetown, Weston, and Ridgefield, provided assistance to the Weston Volunteer Fire Department in combating the inferno.
