Connor Bedard Named IIHF's First Male Player of the Year

Connor Bedard, projected to be the top pick in the upcoming NHL draft, has received another prestigious accolade: the International Ice Hockey Federation's inaugural male player of the year award.

The IIHF announced Bedard's victory on Monday, revealing he secured a significant majority of votes from a panel representing 22 countries. He outpaced other nominees, including Latvian goalie Arturs Silovs, Swiss forward Andres Ambuhl, and German defenseman Moritz Seider.

Bedard's remarkable achievements include leading Canada to consecutive World Junior Championship titles in 2022 and 2023, culminating in an MVP performance in the latter tournament. His 23 points in seven games set a new scoring record. Before his 18th birthday, Bedard had already cemented his status as a rising star in the world of hockey.

The Chicago Blackhawks, holding the first overall pick in the upcoming draft, are widely expected to select Bedard. His exceptional season with the Regina Pats, where he amassed an impressive 143 points, earned him a clean sweep of the Canadian Hockey League awards, including Player of the Year, Top Prospect, and Top Scorer.
