San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy, who last year joked about his inability to afford lavish gifts for his offensive line due to his rookie contract, has now surprised his teammates with a generous Christmas present: brand new cars.
A video shared by the team shows Purdy leading his linemen outside to reveal nine vehicles: five Toyota Sequoias and four Toyota Tundras. The players' reactions ranged from disbelief to pure joy, with comments like "My mind is blown" and "This is probably the greatest gift I ever got in my life."
This extravagant gesture contrasts sharply with Purdy's situation last Christmas, when he lightheartedly acknowledged he couldn't match the gifts given by then-teammate Christian McCaffrey, who presented the linemen with custom golf bags, fitted golf club certificates, and tequila.
Purdy's impressive performance since taking over as the 49ers' starting quarterback has significantly changed his financial outlook. From being "Mr. Irrelevant" as the last pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, he led the team to the NFC Championship in his rookie season and the Super Bowl the following year, despite a serious arm injury in between. This success is expected to result in a lucrative contract extension in the upcoming offseason, with estimates potentially reaching the $50-60 million range, based on comparisons to other quarterbacks in the league.
Tight end George Kittle recently commented on Purdy's potential contract, highlighting his consistently high level of play and suggesting that his earnings should be comparable to other top quarterbacks in the NFL.
