Davis' Dallas Debut Marred by Injury Scare After Dominant First Half

Created: JANUARY 22, 2025

The first Dallas Mavericks home game following the Luka Dončić trade saw a mixed bag of emotions. Fans protested outside the arena, calling for General Manager Nico Harrison's dismissal, while inside, the newly acquired Anthony Davis showcased his talent before suffering a potential injury.

Anthony Davis hurt

Davis' initial performance lived up to expectations. He controlled the first half, racking up 24 points and 13 rebounds. However, early in the third quarter, Davis appeared to injure his groin area without any contact during a play involving Houston's Alperen Şengün. He clutched the area, walked gingerly towards the Mavericks' bench, and remained there while his team continued on offense.

After the Rockets regained possession, Davis did not attempt to return to the defensive end. The Mavericks strategically committed a foul to stop play and allow Davis to exit the game. He briefly remained in the bench area before leaving the court entirely and was not seen again on the bench during the fourth quarter. This incident raises concerns given Davis' history of injuries, despite playing a career-high 76 games last season.
