Homan Joins Abbott at Border, Praises Texas Border Security Efforts

Created: JANUARY 25, 2025

Former acting ICE director and incoming border czar, Tom Homan, joined Texas Governor Greg Abbott at the southern border, commending Abbott's border security initiatives and serving Thanksgiving meals to stationed troops. Homan emphasized the significant decrease in illegal immigration in Texas, attributing it to Abbott's adoption of policies similar to those implemented during the Trump administration. He pledged to collaborate with Abbott to achieve complete border security, not just in Texas, but across the entire southwest border.

Homan and Abbott provided meals to Texas National Guard and Department of Public Safety personnel in Eagle Pass and Edinburg, Texas. Homan lauded the efforts of Texas authorities, stating they were performing crucial work for the entire nation.

Homan also issued a stern warning to officials opposing the incoming administration's planned deportation operation. He reiterated that harboring illegal immigrants is a felony and urged those officials not to challenge the administration's plans. Several governors and mayors have expressed opposition to the deportation initiative.

Governor Greg Abbott

Governor Abbott has been engaged in ongoing disputes with the Biden administration regarding border security, with Texas implementing its own measures like constructing a border wall, deploying buoys in the Rio Grande, and stationing troops. While Texas attributes the decline in illegal crossings to these efforts, the Biden administration points to a broader border-wide decrease, including a drop since President Biden's asylum proclamation and increased cooperation with Mexico. The administration maintains that additional congressional funding is necessary.

Abbott has also transported migrants to sanctuary cities to alleviate pressure on Texas. He expressed gratitude for the incoming administration and Homan's role, emphasizing the importance of enforcing immigration laws and restoring order. Abbott recently announced the installation of additional buoy barriers in the Rio Grande as part of the state's ongoing border security mission.
