Following the passing of former President Jimmy Carter on December 29, 2024, at the age of 100, arrangements have been made for him to lie in state at the U.S. Capitol. His body will arrive on Tuesday afternoon and remain there for three days before a state funeral in Washington, D.C. This honor recognizes his extensive service to the nation.
Speaker Mike Johnson and other congressional leaders communicated their intentions to Carter's son, James Carter III, last month. They expressed their desire to allow the American public to pay their respects to the former president.
