Former Notre Dame quarterback Malik Zaire didn't hold back his critique of Ohio State's Will Howard leading up to the national championship game. Zaire expressed doubts about Howard's ability to lead the Buckeyes to victory against Notre Dame, despite Howard's performance in the College Football Playoff semifinal win over Texas, where he threw for 289 yards and a touchdown.

Zaire took to social media to voice his opinion, stating that Howard is the worst quarterback Ohio State has had in the past 15 years and questioning fans' belief in his ability to secure a championship. He even suggested he'd prefer former Buckeye Jalin Marshall at quarterback over Howard.
Zaire also compared Ohio State's loss to Michigan to Notre Dame's upset loss to Northern Illinois earlier in the season. He argued that Ohio State's loss to Michigan, as heavy favorites at home, was more concerning than Notre Dame's defeat. He emphasized the significance of Michigan's victory, including planting their flag on Ohio State's field.

Notre Dame is aiming for its first national championship in the CFP era but faces a formidable challenge against Ohio State. The Fighting Irish secured a close victory against Penn State in their semifinal matchup.

Howard, a transfer from Kansas State, has accumulated impressive stats this season, throwing for 3,779 yards and 33 touchdowns.
