A New York middle school principal faces serious charges after allegedly attempting to meet a 16-year-old girl for sexual activity. Daniel Erickson, 55, of Johnson City Middle School, was apprehended on Friday following an investigation by the Broome County Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff Fred Akshar expressed his disgust at the situation, emphasizing the violation of trust placed in schools to protect children. The investigation began on July 5th after authorities received a tip about Erickson's inappropriate interactions with the minor. It was discovered that Erickson had been communicating with the teenager through Snapchat for at least a week, making explicit remarks suggesting his desire for sexual engagement.

Initially, Erickson reportedly misrepresented his age to the girl. He later revealed his true identity as the middle school principal, leveraging school district database information to confirm his position. According to the sheriff's office, Erickson had made multiple attempts to meet with the girl prior to his arrest, including an incident where he allegedly appeared at her residence, though she did not meet him.

Authorities ensured the girl's safety following the notification. Erickson arranged a meeting at a remote location on July 7th, purportedly with the intention of engaging in sexual acts. Law enforcement officers were present and arrested him upon arrival. Sheriff Akshar revealed that Erickson had brought a McDonald's Grimace shake, chicken nuggets, and condoms to the planned rendezvous.

Erickson is currently being held without bail, facing charges of luring a child (a Class E felony) and third-degree attempted rape (a Class A misdemeanor). The investigation remains active. The Johnson City Central School District has placed Erickson on administrative leave, barring him from school grounds and prohibiting the use of school resources.

Superintendent Eric Race acknowledged the severe impact of Erickson's alleged actions on the school community and assured the public that measures are being taken to guarantee the safety and well-being of students and staff. Reports indicate Erickson has been employed by the school district for over two decades, serving as principal for the past ten years.
