NC State Rep. Ben Moss Withdraws from Labor Commissioner Race

Created: JANUARY 24, 2025

Representative Ben Moss of North Carolina has decided against pursuing the position of Labor Commissioner in the upcoming election. He initially declared his candidacy last December but has since withdrawn, choosing instead to seek re-election to the General Assembly. Moss, a Republican representing Richmond County, is currently serving his second term in the House of Representatives.

In a statement, Moss explained that he wants to prioritize his family and continue serving his constituents in the House. With Moss out of the running, the field for Labor Commissioner now includes Republican Jon Hardister, a six-term state representative and House Majority Whip, and Democrat Braxton Winston, a Charlotte city council member and mayor pro tem. The current commissioner, Republican Josh Dobson, announced in 2023 that he would not be seeking re-election. Candidate filing officially opens in December 2024, with primaries slated for March 2024.
