After just one full season at the helm, the Las Vegas Raiders have parted ways with head coach Antonio Pierce. The team confirmed the decision in an official statement, marking another change in leadership for the struggling franchise.
Pierce initially stepped into the role as interim head coach after Josh McDaniels' mid-season firing in 2023. Impressed by the team's improved performance under his leadership, owner Mark Davis appointed Pierce to the permanent position for the 2024 season.

Despite the initial optimism, the Raiders finished the 2024 season with a disappointing 4-13 record. The team's statement expressed gratitude for Pierce's contributions, acknowledging his deep connection to the Raiders and his efforts to revitalize the organization. They wished him and his family well in their future endeavors.
Pierce, speaking to reporters on Monday following the end of the regular season, indicated he had not been informed of any changes to his status and intended to focus on improving his coaching skills. He admitted to not always trusting his instincts during the season, a factor he believed contributed to the team's struggles.

The Raiders have seen significant turnover in the head coaching position in recent years, with Jon Gruden's resignation in 2021 followed by McDaniels' brief tenure and now Pierce's departure. Players like Maxx Crosby and former Raider Davante Adams had previously expressed support for Pierce.
The Raiders join several other teams, including the Chicago Bears, New York Jets, Jacksonville Jaguars, and New England Patriots, in the search for a new head coach. Potential candidates include prominent offensive and defensive coordinators like Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn of the Detroit Lions, Arthur Smith of the Pittsburgh Steelers, former Titans head coach Mike Vrabel, and Buccaneers offensive coordinator Liam Coen.

Pierce's coaching career began at Long Beach Poly High School in California before moving to the college level with Arizona State in 2018. He progressed to defensive coordinator and associate head coach with the Sun Devils before returning to the NFL with the Raiders. A former Super Bowl-winning linebacker with the New York Giants, Pierce served as the Raiders' linebackers coach before assuming the interim head coaching role in 2023.
