Created: JANUARY 18, 2025

Republican presidential hopeful Vivek Ramaswamy recently visited Capitol Hill, engaging with conservative legislators and promoting his "anti-woke" agenda. During a roundtable discussion with the House Anti-Woke Caucus, led by Rep. Jim Banks (R-Ind.), Ramaswamy emphasized his belief that "wokeness" poses a significant threat to American ideals. He described it as a "quiet cancer" that needs to be addressed. The meeting included prominent conservatives such as Reps. Kevin Hern (R-Okla.), Harriet Hageman (R-Wyo.), Kat Cammack (R-Fla.), and Mike Waltz (R-Fla.).

While Ramaswamy hasn't secured any new endorsements from the visit, he stated his focus wasn't on garnering immediate support but rather on disseminating his message. He believes that those who resonate with his vision will ultimately support him. Currently, polling data suggests Ramaswamy has around 2.5% support. He has received endorsements at the state level, but not yet from any federal legislators. Notably, some attendees, including Reps. Waltz and Hageman, have already endorsed former President Donald Trump.

Ramaswamy announced his commitment to engage with a broad range of audiences, regardless of their political leanings, introducing a "Talk to Anyone" pledge. He emphasized his willingness to communicate with various media outlets, universities, and communities across the political spectrum. He framed this as a commitment to free speech and open dialogue.

During the roundtable, Ramaswamy shared his strategy for countering what he terms the "woke agenda," suggesting it can be overcome by promoting a strong vision of American identity and values. He defined "wokeness" as a philosophy that emphasizes identity based on race, gender, and sexual orientation, creating a dynamic of oppressors and oppressed. He argued against focusing on these divisions and instead advocated for unity based on shared American ideals.

Ramaswamy also addressed questions about the role of racism in current societal divisions. He asserted that focusing on differences is detrimental to the country and that a shift towards shared values is essential. He encouraged moving away from an emphasis on "skin-deep diversity" and towards a celebration of the "American dream" that unites people from all backgrounds.
