The passenger dismounted and fired into the crowd, striking the two young boys who were walking by with their mother. The 6-year-old was shot in the leg, while his younger brother suffered a graze wound to the leg. Their mother was thankfully unharmed.

Two other bystanders, a 25-year-old man and a 23-year-old man, were also caught in the crossfire. The 25-year-old sustained a gunshot wound to the back, and the 23-year-old was hit multiple times. All four victims were transported to St. Barnabas Hospital and are expected to recover.

The suspects fled the scene on the scooter, and authorities are currently investigating the motive for the attack, unsure if it was targeted or random. Chief of Patrol John Chell expressed his dismay, calling the incident "absolutely heart-wrenching and disturbing." He vowed that the city and the police department would continue their efforts to remove illegal firearms and vehicles from the streets.

The NYPD has released images of the suspects and is urging anyone with information to come forward. No arrests have been made at this time.
