During a guest appearance on the "Great Company" podcast, Basso questioned the legitimacy of actors using their platforms for political messaging.

When asked about his experience with fame, Basso responded by stating his belief that actors shouldn't strive for celebrity status. He argued that their primary function is to deliver lines as instructed, not to influence public opinion on political matters. "We're saying words we're told to say...we're told how to say them, where to stand. And then we're telling people how to vote?" he remarked.

Basso likened actors to court jesters, whose purpose is to entertain, not to seize power. He emphasized that actors are public servants tasked with performing and amusing audiences. He cautioned against entertainers overstepping their boundaries by attempting to influence political decisions. "The jester...starts to be like, ‘I might want to go sit on the throne!’ No. You're not supposed to be there. You're doing a very specific job," Basso stated.

He extended this sentiment to government officials, asserting that their role is to represent the people, not to self-promote. Basso's comments followed a poll revealing that Republicans are generally opposed to celebrities sharing political views. The AP-NORC poll indicated that a significant majority of Republicans disapprove of celebrities engaging in political discourse.

This perspective contrasts with Democratic views, where a substantial portion approve of celebrity political engagement. Basso's remarks contribute to the ongoing discussion about the role of celebrities and public figures in political conversations.
