A targeted shooting disrupted a funeral procession in Oak Park, Illinois, a suburb west of Chicago, on Saturday afternoon, leaving four people injured. According to the Oak Park Police Department, the incident unfolded around 1 p.m. when a white pickup truck pulled alongside the procession and opened fire.

Two individuals were directly hit by gunfire and transported to Loyola Medical Center. One victim remains in critical condition, while the other is in serious but stable condition. Two additional people suffered non-life-threatening injuries from stray bullets and were treated at Rush Oak Park Hospital. Police affirmed that no bystanders were harmed during the attack.

Oak Park Police Chief Shatonya Johnson emphasized that while the immediate threat has subsided, the incident underscores the devastating impact of gun violence on community safety. She stressed the importance of holding those responsible accountable. Although standard procedure calls for funeral homes to notify law enforcement of potentially high-risk processions, police received no such warning in this case.
