According to the Mayo Clinic, thyroid cancer can often develop without noticeable symptoms in its early stages. As it progresses, potential signs may include neck swelling, vocal changes, and difficulty swallowing. Various forms of thyroid cancer exist, each with its own characteristics.

Kansas's assistant band manager, J.R. Rees, confirmed to Ultimate Classic Rock that the band's primary focus is supporting Platt's recovery. He stated, "Our goal is to be back on the road as soon as possible. Right now, we're all focused on supporting Ronnie through this." The band echoed this sentiment on social media, reinforcing the message that Platt's diagnosis is merely a temporary setback.
