Keegan Bradley's Trophy Travel Troubles and "Hometown" Win Debate

Created: JANUARY 25, 2025

Fresh off his Travelers Championship victory, Keegan Bradley landed in Detroit with the coveted trophy in hand, ready for his next tournament appearance at the Rocket Mortgage Classic. However, a slight hiccup emerged – he wasn't supposed to have the actual trophy with him. Bradley humorously addressed the situation in a Twitter video, holding the trophy and admitting, "I wasn’t supposed to take the trophy on Sunday. This is the one they display, the fancy one." He then playfully teased the Travelers Championship organizers with a clip from Ben Affleck's movie "The Town," a film set in Boston. This movie reference added fuel to an ongoing social media discussion regarding Bradley's win being labeled a "hometown" victory by CBS Sports reporter Amanda Balionis Renner. Despite being a Vermont native, Renner defended her statement, explaining that the Travelers Championship is the only annual PGA Tour event in New England, and Bradley has considered it his home event since childhood. Renner urged everyone to "calm down" and appreciate the positive moment. Bradley himself expressed gratitude for the support from New England fans, stating how "lucky" he felt and describing the experience as a "dream." This win marked a historic moment as Bradley became the first New Englander to claim the title since J.J. Henry in 2006.
