Former NCAA swimmer and women's sports advocate Riley Gaines criticized White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre's response to concerns about the safety and fairness of women competing against transgender athletes. Jean-Pierre was questioned about the White House's stance on a parent's worry about their daughter's safety when competing against a transgender girl in high school sports.

Jean-Pierre labeled such concerns as "dangerous," suggesting that they imply transgender children are inherently dangerous. She rejected the premise of the question as an overly broad generalization.

Gaines responded on Twitter, arguing that the White House's emphasis on "inclusion" actually results in the exclusion of women and disregards their safety, privacy, fairness, equal opportunities, and dignity. She views this stance as inherently misogynistic.
Gaines has been a prominent voice advocating for the separation of transgender women and biological women in sports to ensure fair competition. She recently participated in a Capitol Hill event supporting the Women's Bill of Rights legislation, which aims to legally define "woman" in federal law. This definition would strengthen bills like the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act, which President Biden has threatened to veto.
