Created: JANUARY 26, 2025

Lara Trump, daughter-in-law of President-elect Trump, has announced her decision to withdraw her name from contention for Senator Marco Rubio's soon-to-be-vacant Senate seat in Florida. She conveyed this decision via a statement on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday.

Trump expressed gratitude for the encouragement and support she received while contemplating the Senate run. She highlighted her role as RNC co-chair during the recent election and emphasized her continued commitment to public service, hinting at a potential future role. She offered Governor DeSantis well wishes as he undertakes the task of appointing Rubio's replacement.

Previously, Trump had stepped down from her position as co-chair of the Republican National Committee. She mentioned an upcoming "big announcement" planned for January. While she had expressed serious consideration for the Senate seat, she also acknowledged uncertainty about whether it was the right path for her at this time.

President-elect Trump had reportedly encouraged Governor DeSantis to consider Lara Trump for the position, though he later clarified that the final decision rested with the governor. The appointed replacement will serve the remainder of Rubio's term, with the seat opening up for a full six-year term in 2026.
