In a shocking incident in New York City, a taxi driver was assaulted and robbed by a passenger after his card was declined. The altercation occurred near East 23rd Street and Lexington Avenue just before 11 p.m. The 25-year-old suspect, Mame Gueye, from the Bronx, allegedly became aggressive after his payment method was rejected. After exiting the vehicle as requested, Gueye reportedly attacked the 47-year-old driver, striking him and choking him before stealing the taxi. Police later located the stolen vehicle several miles away on the Upper East Side after it collided with a parked car. Gueye attempted to flee the scene but was apprehended by officers following a short pursuit. He now faces multiple charges, including robbery, grand larceny auto, driving under the influence, assault, and obstructing governmental administration. This incident follows a previous arrest of Gueye in March 2023 for driving while intoxicated.
