Valentine's Day 2025 saw a flurry of online activity from political figures, ranging from heartfelt messages to playful jabs and even controversial memes. The White House's official X account sparked debate with a Valentine's Day-themed meme about deporting illegal immigrants, drawing both support and criticism for its tone. Some users found the meme humorous, while others criticized it as insensitive, with one top reply emphasizing the immigrant heritage of many Americans.
GOP strategist Chris LaCivita shared a picture of former President Trump with a bandage, referencing the July 2024 assassination attempt. The Republican National Committee also took a swipe at the Democratic National Committee with a Valentine's message highlighting their election victories. Democrats, in turn, poked fun at the relationship between Elon Musk and Trump, a move that some X users labeled as ineffective "memeing." Other users responded with images of Trump and former first lady Jill Biden.
Amidst the political banter, several prominent figures shared messages of love and appreciation for their spouses. Former President Barack and Michelle Obama celebrated 32 years of marriage with matching selfies, dispelling recent divorce rumors. Former President Joe Biden also shared a Valentine's message for his wife, Jill. Former second gentleman Doug Emhoff expressed gratitude for former Vice President Kamala Harris, while Robert F. Kennedy Jr., recently confirmed as Health and Human Services Secretary, thanked his wife, Cheryl Hines, for her support. Senator Dave McCormick (R-Pa.) expressed his love for his wife, Dina, and Senator Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) shared a photo with his wife of 70 years. Newlywed Senator Tim Scott (R-S.C.) celebrated his first Valentine's Day as a married man.
California Governor Gavin Newsom praised his wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom, for her advocacy work. Representative Byron Donalds (R-Fla.) shared a nostalgic photo with his wife, and Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro celebrated his wife, Lori. Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-La.) quoted Audrey Hepburn in his Valentine's Day message to his wife. New York City Mayor Eric Adams took a different approach, posting a solo picture with a message focused on his commitment to improving the city's affordability and job market.
