The National Weather Service reported over seven inches of rain in Reading, located approximately 60 miles west of Philadelphia, within a 24-hour period. Local authorities, including police near Quakertown and Douglass Township, responded to numerous water rescue calls. In Reading itself, flooding displaced at least 40 residents who are now receiving aid from the Red Cross.

Tragically, the heavy rainfall also claimed a life in New York's Hudson Valley. A woman in her 30s was swept away by floodwaters while attempting to evacuate her home with her dog. According to Orange County Executive Steven Neuhaus, the intense flooding dislodged boulders that struck the woman's house, further complicating the tragic situation. The storm caused extensive damage, estimated to be in the tens of millions of dollars, prompting New York Governor Kathy Hochul to declare a state of emergency for Orange and Ontario counties. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer acknowledged the disaster and expressed gratitude to first responders.
