Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) is calling for an impeachment inquiry into President Biden following explosive testimony from an IRS whistleblower. The whistleblower alleges that Hunter Biden invoked his father's name and presence during business dealings with a Chinese associate via WhatsApp, raising concerns about potential abuse of power and financial impropriety.
Cruz argues that the WhatsApp message constitutes "direct evidence" of President Biden leveraging his position for personal gain, both for his son and potentially for himself. He points to the whistleblower's claim that the Department of Justice, under Merrick Garland, obstructed investigations into this matter, including the incriminating message. Garland has denied these allegations.

The whistleblower, Gary Shapley Jr., who supervised the IRS investigation into Hunter Biden, revealed the existence of the July 30, 2017, WhatsApp message. In it, Hunter Biden allegedly pressured Henry Zhao, CEO of Harvest Fund Management, by stating he was with his father and implying repercussions if Zhao didn't comply with his demands.
Cruz contends that this message directly links President Biden to substantial financial transactions originating from China. He acknowledges the possibility of Hunter Biden fabricating his father's involvement, but emphasizes the alleged obstruction of justice that prevented a thorough investigation into the veracity of the claims. Cruz accuses Garland of potentially obstructing justice by blocking the investigation and calls for a Senate hearing to investigate these allegations. However, he expresses pessimism about such a hearing taking place due to what he perceives as a lack of concern from Senate Democrats.

These revelations directly contradict President Biden's repeated assertions of having no involvement or knowledge of his son's business activities. When questioned about the WhatsApp message and its implications, National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby declined to comment further.

Hunter Biden's lawyer attributes any questionable actions by his client to his past struggles with addiction, asserting they are unrelated to his family. The White House Counsel's Office reiterates that President Biden was not involved in his son's business dealings and emphasizes the Justice Department's independent decision-making in criminal investigations. The White House statement also conveys President Biden's support for his son's recovery efforts.
