Just before a section of Interstate 95 crumbled in Philadelphia, a driver's dashcam footage captured what appears to be a dip in the roadway. The video, taken on Sunday, shows vehicles passing by the tanker truck fire believed to be responsible for the highway collapse. As the driver navigates through the smoke-filled area, a noticeable dip is visible in the southbound lane, precisely where the collapse later occurred.

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro confirmed that a commercial truck carrying a petroleum-based product caught fire around 6:20 a.m., leading to the collapse of the elevated highway section above. While a vehicle was reportedly trapped beneath the debris, thankfully, no injuries have been reported.

The affected area of I-95 remains closed due to structural instability. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has initiated demolition of the collapsed sections and established detours. They anticipate releasing a more precise timeline for the highway's reconstruction in the coming days, following a thorough engineering assessment. To expedite the repair and reconstruction process, Governor Shapiro plans to issue a disaster declaration, enabling access to federal funding.

President Biden has been briefed on the situation, and images from Monday show firefighters surveying the damage. Philadelphia police are managing traffic flow along detour routes. U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg has been in contact with the Federal Highway Administration and Governor Shapiro, offering the Department of Transportation's full support for recovery and reconstruction efforts.
